The Joys of Public Service

My sister relayed a piece of urban myth last night around the dinner table well I was visiting.

A male flight attendant had a passenger complain to him about her overhead luggage before take-off.  As the story goes he turned to her, stated, "Have a good flight you F***ing Bitch," and grabbed two bottles of beer.  He then proceeded to jump down the escape chute and run out onto the runway.*

He got arrested for creating a disturbance, or endangering airport security, or something.

I sat and laughed.  Meg sat and grinned.  The rest of my family looked at us like we were idiots.

If you don't think that's funny, then you don't understand and you may want to consider getting a service industry job.  At least short term.

Or at least realize you're not special, and actually being nice to anyone serving you will get you farther.**

*Unfortunately I can't find any news accreditation for this.  However, all I can think of is to google the "quote."
** We will sit in the back and laugh at you.  If you made our co-worker cry you'll probably pay.***
***Let it be noted that I am referring to previous jobs.  Not my current one.

The other day I served a man who complained about how long he had to wait in line. I felt like saying:

"Congratulations, you're the douchebag of the day."

I think they wiped all the news about it, due to the fact that so many people were supporting him.

It was all over the news here for about three days.

There are definitely times I want to do and say things like that with customers.

That man is a hero and should be treated as such. The best part was when the FBI raided his apartment to arrest him, they found him "in flagrante delicto" with his gay lover.

Tab- It makes me happy that this is a true story. Hmm, turns out I'm reporting a "rumor" that everyone's heard on the news already. Oh well.

Yeah. "Service" industry can be a bitch.

@Geophrie - I didn't hear about that part!

@Kris - No worries, the story never gets old. You missed The most hilarious part though. He didn't just grab the two beers, he popped open one of the beers, released the escape shute and then slid down it with open beer in hand. I think that part just made it additionally epic.

When people complain to me about shit they shouldn't be complaining about/that are out of my control I just go "Mhmm, yeah, ok" and brush them off as I finish their transaction as fast as I can to get them out of there. Screw apologizing for something that is beyond my control.

It's amazing the things people complain about, and what's equally amazing is how people think it's strange when public service workers go on shooting rampages.

You're right, Tab! That makes it so much better!

Nikki, I think I like that. Don't know if I'd have the guts, though.

Kinda true, Christiana. You honestly think people would grow up. I just don't get it.
